Supported backends include PHP and Ruby on Rails. Collaboration features and user registration require PostgreSQL 8+. You can however run the editor entirely without a database if you want.
When installed and run on your server, you will gain access to any resources you define. You can accomplish the same thing by simply defining a project using Amy API, but this way you can be sure any private information stay within your reach.
If you want a simply editor view, embedded Amy may come handy. Check it out.
